The benefits of Alternate Day Fasting

Although there haven’t been enough scientific studies to positively list all the benefits of alternate day fasting, there is enough to get a good idea of the benefits (from animal studies, and from related fasting studies)

Potential benefits of intermittent fasting include:

  • Increased capacity to resist stress and disease
  • Longer life
  • Better quality of life
  • Lower cancer risk
  • Lower risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Delayed onset of dementia-type diseases
  • Delayed onset of type 2 diabetes
  • Healthier weight
  • Low risk of binge eating
  • Easier than other types of fasting
  • Easier than other types of Calorie Restriction diets
  • Reduced oxidative stress on the cells of your body. This means it has an anti-oxidant effect and leads to a longer life and a better quality of life
  • Increased insulin sensitivity. This can help with borderline type 2 diabetes. It seems that men tend to benefit more than women on this one
  • Increased mitochondrial energy efficiency. This means the your cells generate energy more efficiently… you get more energy from the fewer calories you are consuming
  • Save a bit of money on food costs, less dishes to wash, more free time (that would normally be spent eating a meal).
